NurseYourself

About the project

Most nurses agree that the car-ride home from work is their opportunity to debrief and de-stress. Based on extensive primary research, we saw this car ride home - or any similarly private setting - as a unique opportunity to promote, maintain and nurture positive mental health practices in a private and individual manner. ‘NurseYourself’ provides users with a chance to have an open and honest conversation with themselves about their emotional state. Based on principles of reframing and journalling, the system first unpacks the nurse’s current emotional state by asking them to “tell me about your day” and simply let it out to the universe. Once a response is received, the audio is played back to the nurse in a different tone, which lets them reflect on what was said. Following this playback, the system asks the nurse to reflect on how they feel having their initial response, giving them the chance to further consider their emotions. Recordings are deleted at the end of each session to ensure that the nurses information remains private. This reflective process engages nurses with a universal care practice that they excel at – empathy. Except this time they can nurse themselves.
